Data Engineering
Data Engineering Courses in India Compared (2026)
Compare data engineering courses in India: format, duration, stack (Azure, AWS, Databricks, PySpark) and GenAI coverage at GUVI, Intellipaat, Scaler and more.
Short answer: AI systems are only as good as the data pipelines under them, which is why more data engineering courses now add GenAI. When you compare courses, check three things:
- Is it a dedicated data engineering course, or data science with some pipelines?
- Which stack do you actually build on: Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, PySpark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt?
- Does the GenAI part run on real data platforms (RAG over your data, agents using data tools), or is it a separate add-on?
Side-by-side comparison
| Program | Format | Duration | Data engineering stack named on the page | GenAI / agentic coverage | Certificate (as stated) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HCL GUVI: Data Engineering (self-paced) | Recorded | About 11 hours; beginner, intermediate and advanced modules | The data pipeline lifecycle: ingestion, transformation, relational and non-relational storage, warehouses and data lakes, governance | Not covered | Free certification |
| HCL GUVI: Advanced Data Science & Generative AI Program | Live online, weekday or weekend batches | 6 months | Data science focus, not a dedicated data engineering program | Applied generative AI included | IIT-M Pravartak certification |
| Intellipaat: Data Engineering Course (with MITx MicroMasters) | Live sessions plus 200 hours of self-paced video | 7 months | Python, SQL, PySpark, Kafka, Airflow, AWS (Glue, Redshift), Azure (Data Factory, Synapse), Databricks | See the provider's syllabus | Intellipaat certification; MITx MicroMasters certification on completing the MIT modules |
| Scaler: Data Science & ML with AI Specialisation | Live online classes, three a week | 12 months | Data pipelines appear inside a data science program; Scaler's course pages listed no standalone data engineering course when we checked | AI specialisation | See provider |
| Datamarcos: Advance Data Engineering with Applied GenAI & Agentic AI | Live, mentor-led, weekend/evening sessions | 4-month data engineering foundation (weeks 1–16), then an advanced GenAI and agentic specialisation | Python and SQL, Azure Data Lake, PySpark, Azure Data Factory, Delta Lake, AWS, Databricks lakehouse, Spark Structured Streaming, Kafka, Airflow, dbt, Great Expectations, Snowflake | LLMs, embeddings and vector search, LangChain RAG, LangGraph and CrewAI agents, MCP, Snowflake Cortex AI, Databricks Mosaic AI, integrated capstone | Datamarcos certification (not a university certificate) |
GUVI's live (Zen Class) course list did not include a dedicated data engineering program on 29 October 2026, so the GUVI options above are the closest ones we found. If that changes, we'll update this guide.
Who each option is for
- GUVI's free Data Engineering course suits anyone who wants a no-cost introduction to how data pipelines, warehouses and data lakes fit together.
- GUVI's Data Science & GenAI program suits learners whose goal is data science and ML rather than building pipelines, and who want teaching in several Indian languages.
- Intellipaat's program suits learners who want a longer program with an MITx MicroMasters link and a large self-paced library alongside live sessions.
- Scaler's program suits people who want a long, broad data science program in which data pipelines are one part.
- Datamarcos's Advance Data Engineering program suits analysts, BI developers, ETL engineers, backend developers and DBAs who already know SQL. It's for people who want to build cloud pipelines first (Azure, AWS, Databricks) and then put RAG and agents on top of that data. If you've never written SQL, take a free SQL course first, because SQL is the starting point.
Data engineer, AI engineer, or both?
| Data engineer | AI / GenAI engineer | Data + AI engineer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Builds | Pipelines, lakehouses, data models, quality checks | LLM apps, RAG, agents | Pipelines that feed governed AI apps |
| Core tools | SQL, PySpark, Airflow, dbt, Kafka, Databricks or Snowflake | Python, LLM APIs, vector databases, LangGraph | Both, plus platform AI such as Snowflake Cortex AI or Databricks Mosaic AI |
| Common starting point | Analyst, ETL developer, DBA, backend developer | Software developer | Data engineer adding AI |
Our view: data engineering skills keep their value whatever happens with AI, and adding GenAI on top opens more kinds of work than either skill alone. That's a judgement, not a guarantee.
Questions to ask any data engineering course
- Which cloud do I build on, and do I get a real environment?
- Do I build both batch and streaming pipelines? (Streaming usually means something like Spark Structured Streaming or Kafka.)
- Is data quality (tests and expectations, for example with Great Expectations) part of the projects?
- Is there orchestration with Apache Airflow, ADF or Databricks Workflows?
- Is the GenAI part built on the pipeline data, or is it a separate demo?
- What data does the capstone take in, and what does it deliver?
Where Datamarcos fits
The Advance Data Engineering with Applied GenAI & Agentic AI program runs in two tracks.
Track 1: a 4-month foundation
- Month 1: Python and SQL refresher, data concepts, Azure Data Lake
- Month 2: PySpark, Azure Data Factory pipelines, Delta Lake and orchestration
- Month 3: AWS data services, Databricks lakehouse, Spark Structured Streaming, Great Expectations and dbt-style transformations
- Month 4: an end-to-end data engineering capstone and an introduction to GenAI data applications
Track 2: an advanced specialisation in four modules: applied GenAI foundations, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic AI systems (LangGraph, CrewAI) and enterprise AI platforms (Snowflake Cortex AI, Databricks Mosaic AI), ending in an integrated agentic data application. Admissions confirms the cohort schedule for this track.
Sessions are live and mentor-led. We don't guarantee placement, salary or a hike.

FAQ
Which is the best data engineering course in India?
It depends on your starting point and target stack. Compare the cloud you'll build on, whether you build streaming and data-quality pipelines, and how much of the course is live and hands-on.
Does a data engineering course need GenAI now?
It isn't required. But companies building AI need reliable, governed data, and engineers who can serve that data to RAG and agent systems are useful to them. A course that connects the two saves you learning them separately.
Is SQL enough to start data engineering?
SQL is the starting point. You'll also need Python, a distributed engine such as Spark, one cloud platform and an orchestration tool.
Azure or AWS for data engineering?
Learn one deeply and the concepts transfer. The Datamarcos program starts on Azure, then adds AWS and Databricks.
How long is a data engineering course in India?
In this comparison, lengths range from about 11 hours (GUVI's free recorded course) to 12 months (Scaler). Intellipaat's program is 7 months, and Datamarcos's foundation track is 4 months before the advanced specialisation.
Are these data engineering courses online?
Yes. Every program in the table can be taken online. The Datamarcos program is live online with weekend and evening sessions.
