Short answer: in 2026, FDE programs in India run from 13-week practitioner courses to a 12-month program. Some are offered by IIT units (IIT Delhi's Continuing Education Programme, IIT Hyderabad's AI Launchpad) and others by training providers. The useful ways to compare them are:

How much of the program is a client-style engagement, as opposed to lectures.

What a forward deployed engineer does

A forward deployed engineer works inside a customer's environment. They connect a product or model to that customer's systems, data, security rules and users, and stay until it works in production. IIT Delhi's CEP certificate suits professionals who want a certificate from IIT Delhi's CEP and a 6-month weekend format. Registration for the current batch was closed when we checked, so look for the next intake.
IIT Hyderabad's FDE Practitioner program suits engineers with roughly 2–5 years' experience who want an intensive 13-week program and an optional campus visit. The certificate details are still to be confirmed on the page.
Scaler's program suits people who want a long (12-month) live program with many graded sessions.
FDE School suits learners who want a short 13-week live program with a published week-by-week structure.
Fireblaze suits working IT professionals who want weekend classes and the option of a Nagpur classroom.
FDE Academy suits engineers who want a selective, 8-month program.
Datamarcos's Forward Deployed AI Engineer program suits working engineers who want 22 weeks of live, engagement-based practice. Six questions to ask any FDE program

How many full client-style engagements will I run end to end? One? Four?
Do I write discovery notes, a scope or SOW, and a handover pack, or only code?
Is security and governance hands-on? That means SSO and RBAC, PII handling and audit trails, not just a lecture.
Who plays the "client", and who reviews my decisions?
What interview preparation is FDE-specific? For example ambiguous system design, live debugging and customer role-play.
What experience does it assume? Several of the programs above ask for prior engineering experience.

Is there an IIT forward deployed engineer course?

Can a fresher become a forward deployed engineer?
